STC/SM 2009-2010 Chapter Program Season

The STC/SM Programs Committee is sponsoring the STC/SM 2009-2010 Program Season, which will feature six STC/SM Program Meetings hosted by the STC/SM Chapter at locations across Mid-Michigan and Metro Detroit. With our season starting off with the first program meeting of the year in October 2009, we are still in the process of finalizing our remaining program schedule, running through Spring and Early Summer in 2010. We are excited to hear from a variety of speakers, including topics and learning opportunities relevant to the professional development of professional technical communicators. STC/SM programs feature networking opportunities, formal presentations, and discussions of subjects ranging from software and documentation development to professional job searching and networking.

Thank you to all the speakers, companies providing host venues, STC/SM volunteer staff, STC/SM Members, students, and other attendees. This participation and demonstration of commitment to professional development and the advancement of technical communication makes the program season possible, enjoyable, and rewarding.

Current STC/SM Chapter Program Meeting

The Southeastern Michigan Chapter of the Society for Technical Communication (STC/SM) will offer our May 2010 STC/SM Program Meeting on Wednesday, May 26, 2010, hosted at Thomson Reuters, in Dexter, MI. The presenter will give a talk about being a writer: not how to do it, but what we do and why—how being a writer has changed in terms of technology, channels, and speed. However, the same basic skills apply. The same characteristics apply: curiosity, a love of words. In addition, the presentation will include video and sound clips to illustrate broader points and include interactive discussion.

This is an excellent opportunity to learn and think about the evolving profession of technical writing, network with your colleagues, find out about new member services your STC/SM council has been developing, and hear about some highlights from the STC conference recently completed in Dallas, TX. In addition, we will also hold a surprise door prize giveaway at the event for attendees—win your STC/SM T-shirt!

We look forward to the possibility of seeing you in a relaxed, professional setting. The STC/SM Programs Committee always welcomes volunteers, ideas for programs, leads to or contact from good speakers, and collaboration with other professional societies and businesses to provide educational and development opportunities for STC/SM Chapter Members and other technical communicators. We need multiple volunteers at events, including newsletter contributors (e.g. reporters and photographers), Program Greeters, and other positions to assist us with putting on quality events. If you are interested in volunteering, have any questions, or would like to make a comment, please contact the Programs Manager at < programs@stc-sm.org >.

STC/SM maintains archives of historical program information from previous years. Please feel free to visit the STC/SM Programs Archive for more information.
