20 Years of Websites, 30 Years of Cell Phones, and 70 Years of User Experience

    6:30pm to 8:30pm

    Washtenaw Community College
Crane Liberal Arts and Science, LA 374
    4800 Huron River Drive
    Ypsilanti, MI

This presentation will trace the profession of user experience back to its origins during World War II, and use examples from the evolution of cell phones and Websites to bolster an understanding of the value of achieving increases in usability, efficiency, and convenience across products. The days of considering user experience as applying only to software applications, websites, and content are over. This toolkit applies to any customer touch point, and it is time to understand this in our ever changing job market. Attendees will walk away with an understanding of the origins and science behind the profession of user experience. They will also learn that they can transition to impact any customer touch point whether it is a product or service, hardware or software, website or Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system, customer or employee-facing, personal device or public kiosk.

    Happy Hour

    5:00-7:00pm

    Bastone Brewery in Royal Oak

Join us for an evening of casual networking, organized by STC/SM, at the Bastone Brewery in Royal Oak. These casual networking events are a great opportunity to meet fellow technical communicators and talk about what you’ve been doing, what you’d like to be doing, and a number of other topics. STC/SM members, not-yet-STC/SM members, and others (including students) are encouraged to join us.

A table has been reserved at Bastone Brewery under “Mary Jo / STC.” Please try to RSVP in advance if you'll be attending. That way we can make sure to have enough seating available, and we can notify you if something changes due to inclement weather. Attendees are responsible for purchasing their own food/beverages, but the camaraderie and conversation are free! If you can’t make it right at 5:00, don’t let that stop you.

Join us anytime you can between 5:00 and 7:00. During breaks in the conversation, we’ll make time to introduce any new arrivals. We’re flexible like that! Please RSVP by noon on Wednesday, 4/22/15 to membership@stc-sm.org just so we make sure to have enough seating reserved. Looking forward to seeing you on April 23!

    1. STC/SM’s programming year runs from September to June. We are having a planning meeting on August 6, so we will be able to post information sometime before the beginning of September.

      1. October 23, 2016 is the next council meeting. We decided to change it due to unavailability of several council members on the 16th.
